Prevention of bone complications eg, fractures, in adults w/ bone metastases. Reduces the amount of Ca in the blood in adults where it is too high due to the presence of a tumour [tumour-induced hypercalcaemia (TIH)].
4 mg as a single IV infusion for at least 15 min. Prevention of bone complications due to bone metastases 1 infusion every 3-4 wk. Reduces the amount of Ca in the blood Single infusion administration. Patient w/ kidney problem Reduce dose depending on the severity of your kidney problem.
Hypersensitivity to zoledronic acid, other bisphosphonate. Patient w/ CrCl <35 mL/min & those w/ evidence of acute renal impairment due to an increased risk of renal failure. Pregnancy & lactation.
Kidney problem, pre-existing renal dysfunction or other risk factors for renal failure, advanced age, patient using concomitant nephrotoxic drugs or diuretic therapy, medicines that could affect renal function; dehydrated; patient w/ pain, swelling or numbness of the jaw, feeling of heaviness in the jaw or loosening of a tooth, who are to undergo dental treatment/surgery. Osteonecrosis of the jaw & external auditory canal. Childn & adolescent <18 yr. Elderly >65 yr.
Severe kidney impairment, low level Ca &/or phosphate in the blood; headache & flu-like syndrome, GI reactions eg, nausea & vomiting as well as loss of appetite; conjunctivitis, low level of RBC.
Drug Interactions
Decreases Ca level in the blood w/ aminoglycosides. May harm kidneys w/ thalidomide. Other bisphosphonates. Risk of osteonecrosis of the jaw w/ anti-angiogenic drugs.
